SAFe® Collaborate Dot Voting FAQs

Updated over 9 months ago

How do I use dot voting in SAFe® Collaborate?

When you’re facilitating an event where you expect differing opinions, or when you need to prioritize multiple actions or ideas, turn on dot voting. Dot voting is a fun and engaging way to make everyone’s vote matter. You can choose the number of votes to give each participant and set a timebox for the voting activity; then participants simply add their votes with the click of a button. Dot voting gives everyone insight and helps you make more informed decisions, so you can move forward as a group.

How do I enable dot voting?

As a facilitator, you will be able to turn dot voting on and off in the Settings for an event, found in the toolbar. When enabled, the Voting option will appear in the toolbar for you and all participants. You can turn voting off again at any time.

How do I start a round of dot voting?

After selecting Voting in the toolbar, select “Add Voting Round” in the Voting tray. You’ll be able to name the round, choose a color for the dots, pick how many votes per person, and the timebox for voting. Once created, you can then start a round by using the green play button.

Some things to note:

  • Participants will be able to place multiple votes on one item, so you may want to tell them a limit for how many votes they place on each item

  • Participants will be able to add votes to all items in the event, so you may want to tell them which items they should vote for

  • The timebox can end early if you stop it, but cannot be extended once it begins

  • As the facilitator, you can optionally vote too

  • During voting, each participant will only see their votes while you can see who has voted and which items are receiving votes. No one can see who voted for which item. The icon for Voting in the menu will turn into a circle and fill up as the timebox passes.

How do I share voting results?

Once voting is completed, you can choose the option to “Share Results” in the voting menu. Then, all participants will be able to see the number of votes that each item received. The count will show both on the board and in the table view. When you are done with the round, you can close it using the red stop button on the round. You can then start another round if you wish.
