What Happens if I Fail my exam?
If you don’t pass your exam on the first attempt, you may take it again by purchasing a retake. You can pay a $50 retake fee and immediately retake the exam.
The retake fee for Implementing SAFe is $250. If you don’t pass the retake exam, you may try a third time after a 10-day waiting period. The waiting period for a fourth attempt and any additional attempts is 30 days.
You can purchase an exam retake within your Learning Plan. The ‘retake’ button will be located next to your exam. Clicking this button will take you to our payment platform where you can purchase your retake exam.
What is the Retake Policy for Exams?
The following applies to all Scaled Agile exams, except sample tests and practice tests:
After you complete your course, the first time an exam is taken is considered a “first attempt” and not a retake
If a certification exam is not successfully completed on the first attempt, there is no waiting period before taking the exam a second time
A second attempt (first retake) of an exam can be done immediately after the first attempt for a fee*
A third attempt requires a 10-day wait before the exam can be retaken for a fee*
A fourth attempt requires a 30-day wait before the exam can be retaken for a fee*
Once an exam is successfully completed, exam retakes are not allowed. The candidate may not take the same exam again, unless there has been an announced update to the exam.
Once you pay the retake fee, you’ll have access to take the exam based on the number of previous exam attempts However, there is no deadline for a retake.

How do I purchase a retake for my exam?
Here are the steps for purchasing an exam retake.
From the SAFe Studio home page, you will want to Navigate back to your exam via the Learn -> My Learning section.
Select the learning plan that you wish to purchase a retake for.
Scroll down to the exam
You’ll notice the “Launch” button for the exam now says “Purchase” or “Retake”, when you can click on the button to place the “Retake” item in your cart and purchase. (Both Purchase and Retake buttons take you to the same place)
Check out and the button will say “Launch” again and allow you to take the exam.
Do I need to purchase a retake if I have not taken the exam yet?
In some cases, yes. If your exam has expired and you are outside of the extension window, then you will need to purchase an exam retake to gain access to the exam as you have not taken the exam within the allotted time as part of your course.
When does my Retake Expire?
We implemented a change on November 4th, 2022 that grants access to paid learning plans regardless of membership status. This means that once a retake is purchased, it will not expire. If you have any further questions you can reach out to our support team at [email protected] .
My membership expired, and I did not pass the exam; can I retake the exam if I renew my membership?
You do not need to have an active membership to purchase a retake as learning plans are available regardless of membership status. You can earn your certification without a membership if you wish to do so, you will have access to the certification even without the membership.
I failed my SAFe 4 certification exam. Can I purchase a SAFe 5.0 retake?
No. Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) 4 and SAFe 5 exams are different and cannot be mixed between SAFe certifications.
You must first pass your SAFe 4 exam before you will be eligible to access the free SAFe 5.0 upgrade path and exam.
