What happens if I fail my exam?
If you don’t pass your exam on the first attempt, you may take it again by purchasing a retake. You can pay a $50 retake fee and immediately retake the exam.
The retake fee for Implementing SAFe is $250. If you don’t pass the retake exam, you may try a third time after a 10-day waiting period. The waiting period for a fourth attempt and any additional attempts is 30 days.
You can purchase an exam retake within your Learning Plan. The ‘retake’ button will be located next to your exam. Clicking this button will take you to our payment platform, where you can purchase your retake exam.
Can I retake the SAFe 4 or SAFe 5 exams?
No, you cannot retake or purchase retakes for SAFe 4 or SAFe 5 exams. You will not be able to access your SAFe 4 or SAFe 5 exam or learning plan. If you want to earn the Certification, you will need to take a new course. You can browse for courses on our Training Calendar. Please find an overview of all current SAFe courses being offered HERE.
What is the Retake Policy for Exams?
The following applies to all Scaled Agile certification exams (excluding sample tests, practice tests, and AI Empowered SAFe Practitioner exam), unless otherwise noted below.
After completing your course, the first time you take the exam is considered your first attempt, not a retake.
If the exam is not passed on the first attempt, there is no waiting period before taking it a second time.
A second attempt (first retake) may be taken immediately after the first attempt for a fee.
A third attempt requires a 10-day waiting period and payment of a retake fee.
A fourth attempt requires a 30-day waiting period and payment of a retake fee.
Once an exam is successfully passed, additional attempts are not permitted unless an updated version of the exam is released.
For the Proctored Scrum Master Exam, the retake fee is $495.
After paying the retake fee, you may take the exam based on the number of prior attempts. There is no deadline for a retake as long as the exam remains available.
A fee applies to each retake attempt. Please refer to the individual exam page for specific retake fees.
Exception: AI-Empowered SAFe Practitioner Exam
The retake policy for the AI-Empowered SAFe Practitioner exam differs as follows:
First attempt: Free with course registration and may be taken immediately.
Second attempt: Free with course registration and may be taken immediately after the first attempt.
Third attempt: Requires a 10-day waiting period after the second attempt and payment of a retake fee.
Fourth attempt: Requires a 30-day waiting period after the third attempt and payment of a retake fee.
Once the exam is successfully passed, no further attempts are permitted unless an updated version of the exam is released.
How do I purchase a retake for my exam?
Here are the steps for purchasing an exam retake.
From the SAFe Studio home page, you will want to navigate back to your exam via the Learn -> My Learning section.
Select the learning plan for which you wish to purchase a retake.
Scroll down to the exam
You’ll notice the “Launch” button for the exam now says “Purchase” or “Retake”, when you can click on the button to place the “Retake” item in your cart and purchase. (Both Purchase and Retake buttons take you to the same place)
Check out, and the button will say “Launch” again and allow you to take the exam.
Do I need to purchase a retake if I have not taken the exam yet?
In some cases, yes. If your exam has expired and you are outside of the extension window, then you will need to purchase an exam retake to gain access to the exam as you have not taken the exam within the allotted time as part of your course.
When does my Retake Expire?
We implemented a change on November 4th, 2022, that grants access to paid learning plans regardless of renewal status. This means that once a retake is purchased, it will not expire so long as the exam is still offered. If you have any further questions, you can reach out to our support team at [email protected].
My renewal expired, and I did not pass the exam; can I retake the exam if I renew my renewal?
You do not need to have an active renewal to purchase a retake, as learning plans are available regardless of renewal status. You can earn your certification without a renewal if you wish to do so, you will have access to the certification even without the renewal.
