What are the requirements to teach the RTE course?

SPCs who are interested in teaching the SAFe® Release Train Engineer course should understand the following SPC RTE required trainer qualifications:

  • Have launched and sustained an Agile Release Train (ART) for three or more consecutive Program Increments (PIs) following the SAFe® PI Planning Toolkit Guidelines*

  • Have taught five or more SAFe® courses with an average student feedback score of 4.0 or higher*

SPCs who meet these qualifications should register for an RTE Trainer Enablement Learning Plan on the Scaled Agile Community Platform.

*It is the responsibility of the SPC to track the number of consecutive ARTs launched and sustained, and document their average student feedback score

NOTE: Only Gold Partner SPCTs (and SPCT Candidates) can qualify to teach the RTE course in a public environment. SPC RTE trainers who are not Gold Partner SPCTs (or SPCT Candidates) can teach the RTE course in their private environment.

Important Update

  • SPCs certified before June 4, 2025, may continue teaching the RTE course as long as they meet the requirements listed above. Any SPC certified after June 4, 2025, will need to earn their ASPC certification

  • Beginning June 3, 2026, all SPCs who wish to teach the RTE course must have completed the RTE trainer enablement and continue to be an SPC in good standing. If the SPC certification expires, then the SPC will need to renew and attend an Advanced SAFe Practice Consultant (ASPC) course and earn the ASPC certification.
