What is a digital badge?
A digital badge is a web-enabled version of your earned SAFe® certification that can be verified online in real-time. Your personal badge URL can be posted to or shared on various social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. The digital image, containing metadata, links back to your Credly profile and describes your qualifications and skills, and the requirements to earn the certification.
You will receive your digital badge only if you have opted in via the Privacy Preference settings within the SAFe Community Platform.
When do I receive my digital badge?
Anyone who was certified on the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) 4.0 or higher will automatically receive a digital badge, provided that the certification is active and current. After passing the certification exam, you will receive an email from Credly.
NOTE: As of June 16th, 2025 new users now need to OPT-OUT of this process (existing users settings will not change). To opt-in/out for Credly emails:
Log in to SAFe Studio
Go to the drop-down menu from your name in the top right
Select My Settings.
Click on the Preference tab.
Click on the Opt-in button which will be found at the top of the page.
Once you Opt In, your information will be sent to Credly, and an email to accept your badge will be sent to your email address on file.
What types of content award a digital badge?
There are three primary types of content that digital badges factor into.
Courses: These are instructor led experiences that culminate in an exam that awards a certification.
The badge is only awarded if you complete the course as a learner and pass the exam.
The validation to teach these courses is separate from this experience and does not award a digital badge.
Micro-Credentials: These are more compact experiences with an instructor led component.
The badge is awarded only if you complete the Micro-Credential as a learner.
Similar to Courses (above), the validation that permits an SPC to teach a Micro-Credential does not award a digital badge.
SAFe Skills: These are smaller, self-paced experiences that award the learner with a digital badge.
SPCs who complete these SAFe Skills within their facilitator enablement plan will be awarded a digital badge as these are self-paced and not instructor led learnings.
Learners who complete the SAFe Skill will earn a digital badge for the SAFe Skill.
My digital badge is assigned to an email address I no longer have access to it. How can I access my badge?
Digital badges are created and distributed by our digital badge provider Credly. Credly Support can be found here.
If your digital badge is tied to an email address that is no longer active, you can add an updated email address to your Credly account. This will ensure that all of your Credly badges will be assigned to your active email address, no matter which email address is used for issuing.
