General piplanning.io and Azure DevOps FAQs

Azure DevOps

In this guide, you will learn how to create application links in the Azure DevOps software.

1. Click "ALM Connections"

Click 'ALM Connections'

2. Click "Add new ALM Connection" and select Azure DevOps

3. Next you'll need to fill in the required fields shown.

  • "Connection Name" is simply the name of your connection

  • "Instance URL" is ONLY the https://dev.azure.com/ part and your corresponding instance name as shown above. In this case it is https://dev.azure.com/piplanningdemo where "piplanningdemo" is the sample instance name. (This needs to be exact and cannot contain any additional spaces or slashes)

  • "Username and PAT (Personal Access Token)" is what will identify you and the integration with Azure DevOps. You will want to make sure the username is the same one used for Azure DevOps. In regards to the PAT, this is generated from within Azure DevOps under "User Settings -> Personal Access Token"

4. Next, you'll need to hit the "Next" button pictured above and continue to the "Project" section. In the "Project" section, you only need to select the correct Azure DevOps project name and click "Next".

5. Continuing to the "Webhook" section, you will need to add the webhooks created in the "Project Settings -> Service Hooks" section of Azure DevOps.

6. Next you'll need to get the Area Paths in Azure DevOps under "Project Settings -> Team Configuration -> Areas" and input these into piplanning.io under the "Team Mapping" section (visible in the screenshot above).

7. Finally, the "ART Mapping" section will be much the same as "Team Mapping" from step 6, except with ARTs instead of teams.

Once that is all set up, your Azure DevOps integration with piplanning.io should be all set and ready to go.
